FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR,

UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM,

30th July 1945.

Dear Mr. Gent,

I should be very glad to help with the rehabilitation of Hong Kong Univer- sity, My only hesitation is concerning the difficulty of attending many meetings in London under the present transport conditions. Most meetings start at 10.30 a.m. and, even if I catch the 7.30 a.m. train from Birmingham, I usually miss the first half-hour and when the meetings are over by lunch- time it is sometimes really not worth my having come. If this difficulty is not likely to arise and if a reasonable amount of notice of meetings could be given, I should like to try. Mr. Cox is fully aware of the diffi- culties I have experienced in getting to the meetings of the West Indies Sub-Committee. If he thinks that it is worth while trying so to arrange that I can attend fairly regularly I should be glad to serve.

Yours sincerely,

Ruymas Rutte
